Data - 1-Sample Poisson Rate
main topic

You can enter sample data in raw, frequency, or summarized form. Only raw and frequency data use a Minitab worksheet, and their data must consist of nonnegative integers. Minitab excludes missing values from all computations. When you enter more than one data set, Minitab performs a separate analysis for each data set.

Raw and frequency data

·    Raw data: All values from the sample are present in a single column.

·    Frequency data: Unique sample observations in a single column with a separate column containing their corresponding frequencies.

Here are the two ways of entering the same data into a Minitab worksheet:

Raw data:

Frequency data:

Summarized data

Enter a single value for the sample size, and one or more values for the number of total occurrences directly in the 1-Sample Poisson Rate dialog box. When you enter more than one value in Total occurrences, Minitab performs a separate analysis for each sample, and applies the single value in Sample size to all summarized samples.

To input the above data in summarized form, enter 11 in Sample size because you counted events eleven times, and enter 23 (the sum of all counts) in Total occurrences.
