Factorial design

A type of designed experiment that allows for the simultaneous study of the effects that several factors may have on a response. When performing an experiment, varying the levels of all factors simultaneously rather than one at a time allows for the study of interactions between the factors.

In the following plots, each point represents a unique combination of factor levels.

Two Factor Design

Three Factor Design

2 levels of factor A
3 levels of factor B

2 levels of each factor

You can either run the full factorial design or a fraction of the factorial design:

·    A full factorial design measures the response at all combinations of the experimental factor levels.

·    A fractional factorial design measures the response at a subset (or fraction) of all combinations of the experimental factor levels.
